Healthier Moms and Babies is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to reduce infant mortality and improve outcomes in our community. Healthier Moms and Babies provides several comprehensive programs which are designed to educate, empower, and inspire participants to make positive changes to impact the outcome of the pregnancies, their lives and the lives of their families.
Job Purpose
The Therapist provides direct behavioral health services to individuals and families, focusing on maternal mental health and family well-being. This role supports clients through diagnostic and assessment services, counseling, psychotherapy, and psychoeducation. This position will also facilitate groups to support mental health and will coordinate care with other program staff and community providers.
The Therapist works collaboratively with the Mental Health Program Director, Nurse Family Partnership home visiting team, and other program staff to ensure holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care.

Direct Clinical Services
Provide direct clinical services including assessment, diagnostic evaluation, counseling, and psychotherapy.
Provide evidenced-based treatment such as Child Parent and Psychotherapy (CPP), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
Provide crisis interventions.
Provide information and referral to participants for community resources.
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans.
Facilitates group psycho-education intervention groups.
Conduct depression and mental health screenings by utilizing the Edinburgh Depression Scale as an assessment tool and conduct Stress Reduction
Coordinate care and maintain necessary communication and reporting with referral sources and other involved parties as approved by client.
Demonstrate good clinical judgement and decision making.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
Community Collaboration and Outreach
Maintain effective working relationships with clinical team and community referral sources
Participate in clinical supervision with HMB Maternal Mental Health Director to develop skills, ensure ethical and competent client care.
Participate in case reviews and team meetings with the Nurse Family Partnership team as required.
When needed, participate in community outreach events and education efforts.
Maintain an active role in the community and other locations where behavior health service interventions may be relevant to preconception, pregnant, postpartum and parenting women and their family.
Documentation and Compliance
Ensure compliance with ethical, legal, and professional standards in client care.
Participate in required trainings and maintain certifications, including PMH-C (Perinatal Mental Health Certification) if applicable.
Maintain tracking forms, statistical information, documentation and reporting in a detailed, timely manner.
Professionalism and Organizational Alignment
Communicate clearly, concisely, and in a tactful, professional manner.
Promote a culture of respect, cultural sensitivity, and trauma-informed practice.
Share accurate information and represent Healthier Moms and Babies in a professional manner within the community.
Take initiative and responsibility for decisions as an individual and as a staff member of HMB.
Maintain a positive and collaborative work environment and experience for co-workers and clients.
Adhere to all organizational and departmental policies, procedures, and practices; maintain proper attendance and punctuality.
Utilize materials, equipment, and time in a safe, beneficial, and cost-effective manner; organize workload to complete responsibilities in an appropriate and timely manner.
Participate in in-service training and attend conferences as required.
Uphold ethical business practices by striving to perform in a manner that conforms to the highest standards of ethical behavior, integrity, and honesty; exhibit commitment and promote HMB’s mission, values, and vision.
Report any case that may involve “imminent harm” or “threatened harm” to a supervisor immediately. Always intervene on behalf of the child when necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned by Program Director.

Advanced degree required: Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy, Human Development, Social Relations, Women’s Studies, Social Work, Nursing, Psychiatry or other Behavioral Health related field.

Must maintain a valid driver’s license and a vehicle for full-time business use. Employees must also maintain automobile insurance with minimum liability coverage of $300,000 Combined Single Limit (CSL) or $250,000 per person/$500,000 per accident.
Current Licensed Family Therapist, Behavior Health Counselor or Clinical Social Worker in Indiana or currently working towards licensure.
Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) preferred or to be obtained within one year of hire.
Must maintain professional licensure, certifications, and continuing education.

Foundational experience as a Family Therapist, Behavior Health Counselor or Clinical Social Worker

Experience practicing in an integrated environment, community health clinic, and/or experience working with low-income, immigrant, or underserved populations is desirable.
Experience in perinatal and maternal mental health preferred.
Expertise in trauma-informed, culturally responsive mental health care.
Knowledge of case management, home visitation and health education practices.
In depth knowledge of community resources.
Judgment required in problem-solving/working with internal/external personnel from multiple organizational levels.
Attention to detail in documentation of client encounters and clinical notes.
Strong assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration abilities.
Demonstrate integrity in all situations and interactions; has the ability to develop trusting, collaborative, professional relationships with coworkers, clients, and community collaborators.
Must have organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple and diverse clients concurrently.
Knowledge of patient confidentiality issues and HIPAA compliance are essential.
Computer literacy in Microsoft Outlook, Office, and Excel required.
