We know pregnancy can be stressful, especially if you weren’t expecting to be
expecting. Often it changes your most important relationships—with your family
or the baby’s father—and not always for the better. Sometimes working and having
an adequate income is more difficult because of nausea and doctor appointments,
and you may need help in ways you never did before. And some women have other
health problems that complicate the pregnancy.
Healthier Moms and Babies provides information and support during this time to reduce your stress and help you concentrate on having a healthy baby.
What exactly do you do?
We visit you once a month, usually in your home, so you don’t have to get to us. We listen to your concerns and questions about the pregnancy and your situation. We educate you about the pregnancy, especially on what’s normal and what’s worth reporting to your doctor. We help you get the services you need for yourself and your baby from other community agencies, and we advocate for you if you have trouble getting what you need.
Who makes the home visits?
We have nurses and social workers. You’ll be matched with one of them according to your needs. They are all experienced professionals and parents, and Certified Prenatal Care Coordinators, specially trained to help you.
What does this cost?
Nothing for you. The cost for our services is provided from foundations, the State Department of Health and donations, so you’ll deliver a healthy baby!
Who is eligible for your service?
Pregnant women in Allen County who are less than 30 weeks (or about 7 months) pregnant. We want to work with you as early in the pregnancy as possible.
What about after the baby is born?
If we started seeing you during your pregnancy, we’ll work with you until the baby is one year old. But we have to start while you’re pregnant.
How do I start your service?
You can sign up online by clicking here for our

Patient Stories - Rochelle and DaiQuan

"When
I found out I was pregnant, I was scared. I
didn’t tell anybody; I had so many miscarriages,
I thought I would lose it. I didn’t think I’d
ever have a baby.
"Dr. Amechi’s office told me to call Healthier
Moms and Babies. I learned a lot about diet and
taking it day by day. They helped me keep my
confidence. It was someone to talk to, to get
information, it’s someone there for you.
"They do a lot of good--a lot of good.
(and I prayed a lot!) They also helped me get
a baby bed from the Baby’s Closet.
"DaiQuan is in the third grade, and he’s on the
honor roll. He had straight A’s. I’m so proud
of him. If you’re high risk, you should call and
get help from Healthier Moms and Babies. I
would tell anyone to call and get help. It’s a
blessing!"
Patient Stories - Maria
"When traveling through time in my
thoughts, memories live that today, thanks to God, I can
turnover and say thanks to my God, because there are
always people who I’ll call angels, who have helped
people like me.
Such was the case with Sally from the Healthier Moms and
Babies program.
"When I met her, I was in a difficult situation, my
husband was in Mexico and I had to live in a shelter, I
found out I was pregnant with my fourth baby. I was
scared, didn’t know anybody and didn’t know where to
turn or who to ask for advice...

"I give thanks to God because Sally gave me all the
information, consolation, help that I needed because
even though it was my fourth pregnancy, everything was
totally different from the others. She provide me with
information throughout the pregnancy and even after the
baby was born.
"Sally also helped me with the school for my older
children. I was apprehensive to send my children to
preschool. Also she helped me with my son Henry who had
a problem with stuttering and she also gave me lots of
information.
"Later I was pregnant with my fifth baby, they came to
visit me another time and helped a lot with information
that they could offer. It was then that I met Louise,
also a member of the team at Healthier Moms and Babies
and she was always equally nice and arranged to help in
all manners possible.
"Thank you for helping me and for stretching out a hand
always when I needed it.
"Thank you Sally, Louise. Thank you Healthier Moms and
Babies. May God bless you."
